Cookie Policy

Last updated: 19 June 2026

This policy explains the cookies and browser storage EventThreads uses today — including sign-in sessions, guest wallet support, Turnstile bot protection, and the mobile add-to-home-screen hint.

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how EventThreads uses cookies and similar browser technologies when you visit our website.

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you use a website. They help websites remember information about your visit, such as whether you are signed in or have used a feature before.

We use cookies and similar technologies to make EventThreads work properly, keep accounts secure, support the business card wallet, and protect public forms against abuse.

This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

2. Cookies used by EventThreads

EventThreads uses a small number of essential and security-related cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not currently use third-party marketing analytics cookies.

Supabase authentication cookies

  • Purpose: to keep you signed in securely and manage your account session
  • Set by: Supabase, our authentication provider
  • When used: when you create an account, sign in, confirm your email, or remain signed in
  • Typical names: cookies beginning with `sb-` followed by our Supabase project reference (for example session and authentication helper cookies)
  • Duration: managed by Supabase according to your session activity and security settings

Guest wallet cookie (`eventthreads-guest-id`)

  • Purpose: to recognise your browser when you use the wallet without signing in
  • Set by: EventThreads
  • When used: when you browse the directory and save supplier cards as a guest
  • Duration: up to 12 months
  • Properties: HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, Secure in production, path `/`
  • Note: if you later sign in, guest wallet activity may be merged into your account

Cloudflare Turnstile

  • Purpose: bot protection on certain public forms (for example contact enquiries and sign-up)
  • Set by: Cloudflare
  • When used: when a Turnstile challenge runs during form submission
  • Duration: managed by Cloudflare according to its security settings
  • Note: these cookies support spam prevention and are not used for advertising

Essential and security cookies are necessary for core platform functionality. They are not used to track you across unrelated websites for advertising purposes.

3. Local storage

In addition to cookies, EventThreads uses browser local storage in one limited case.

  • Key: `eventthreads-add-to-home-dismissed`
  • Purpose: remembers if you dismissed the mobile “add to home screen” hint
  • Content: a timestamp showing when you dismissed the hint
  • Duration: the hint stays hidden for about 30 days, then may appear again
  • Sent to our servers: no — this preference stays on your device only

We do not currently use session storage on EventThreads.

4. Analytics

EventThreads records some platform usage events on our own servers — for example profile views, wallet saves, and search usage — to understand how the directory is used.

This first-party analytics does not rely on third-party advertising cookies or browser marketing trackers.

We do not use tools such as Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar advertising trackers at this time.

If we introduce browser-based analytics cookies in future, we will update this Cookie Policy and, where required under UK law, ask for your consent before using non-essential analytics cookies.

5. Managing cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block cookies, delete existing cookies, or alert you when a site tries to set a cookie.

If you delete or block essential cookies, parts of EventThreads may stop working as expected. For example:

  • You may not be able to stay signed in
  • Your guest wallet may not remember saved supplier cards on that device
  • Sign-in confirmation links may not complete correctly in some browser setups
  • Public forms protected by Turnstile may not submit successfully

Clearing local storage in your browser will reset the dismissed state of the add-to-home-screen hint.

For more information about cookie controls, check your browser’s help pages.

6. Third-party services

EventThreads relies on trusted service providers to host and operate the platform. Some of these services may set or read cookies that are necessary for the site to function.

  • Supabase — authentication and session cookies
  • Cloudflare — Turnstile security cookies on protected forms
  • Vercel — hosting and content delivery, which may use essential technical cookies or similar identifiers needed to deliver the website securely and reliably

When you open a full supplier profile that includes a Google Maps embed, Google may set its own cookies or use similar technologies under Google’s privacy policy. EventThreads does not control those third-party cookies.

When you use the event map page, map tiles may be loaded from OpenStreetMap providers. Those requests may involve technical information such as your IP address, handled under the tile provider’s terms.

Supplier websites, social links, event organiser sites, and Daily Thread source links shown on the platform are also controlled by third parties, not by EventThreads.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add new features, change how authentication works, or introduce analytics.

When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.

Please review this page periodically so you stay informed about how we use cookies and similar technologies.
